Terms of use

These are the terms you use thinkering under. Using the app means you accept them.

What you get

Permission to use the app on devices you control, for free, for as long as it is offered. The source is published under the AGPL-3.0 or later licence, and that licence — not this page — governs what you may do with the code.

Your content is yours

Everything you write and everything generated for your plan belongs to you. We claim no licence over it. We also cannot see it: it is on your device, and a cloud backup is encrypted before it leaves.

Generated material is not advice

Activities are written by a language model and can be wrong, out of date, or confidently mistaken. Nothing in the app is professional, medical, legal or financial advice, and where the subject is one where being wrong hurts, check it against a real source. Report anything wrong with the “this looks wrong” action on the card.

Fair use of generation

Generation costs us money per request, so there is a daily limit per device. Please do not work around it, script the endpoint, or use the app to generate material unrelated to your own learning.

Backups are your responsibility

The app is local-first: if you lose the device without a backup, the data is gone, and we have no copy to restore from. If you use cloud backup, the recovery key is yours alone and cannot be reset or recovered by us. See Support.

No warranty, and what we are liable for

The app is provided as it is, without warranties of any kind, to the extent the law where you live allows. We are not liable for lost data, lost time, or anything you did on the strength of something the app generated. Nothing here removes rights you have that cannot be removed by agreement.

Ending it

You can stop at any time by deleting the app; ask us to delete your account and cloud backup at hello@thinkering.app. We may withdraw the hosted generation service, with notice in the app where we can give it — the app keeps working on data already on your device.
